Research and Benchmarking

The Business Capability Partnership is interested in research related to management and business capability that has a practical application to managers and business - i.e. research that can be used by managers or enterprises to support their management and business improvement efforts.

Applied and empirical research on management and business capability in New Zealand is being undertaken in various places. However, it is the Partnership’s assessment that:

The Partnership believes that benchmarking is an under-utilized tool in New Zealand.  In fact, studies have indicated that approximately half of all New Zealand firms have never conducted any form of benchmarking of their performance. The most common problems New Zealand organisations claim to experience when they benchmark are the identification of suitable partners and benchmarking information, as well as confidentiality. Other difficulties include resource constraints such as time, finance and expertise.

The Benchmarking and Research Working Group believes that there is a need for better coordination of, and improved access to, business/management and benchmarking-related research that is of relevance to business as well as researchers and policy-makers in New Zealand.
